So when putting together your smoothie, you want to remember the '1 veggie to 1 fruit' rule. This will make sure that the nutrition you get from the veggies outweighs the sugar content of the fruit. Although it's good sugar, you still need to watch how much you eat.
When picking your veggies, we like to go for ones that can be easily camouflaged by delicious berry goodness:
- Spinach (and most types of lettuce, Kale is great too but can be difficult to blend)
You can pick pretty much any fruit, we love:
- Frozen berries
- Bananas (great for post workout)
Then to complete your smoothie you need to pick your liquid:
- Coconut water (unsweetened, straight up is best)
- Almond milk
So without further delay, we present:
Ultimate Detox Green Smoothie Recipe
1 handful of spinach
1 frozen banana
1 handful of frozen berries
Place all of the ingredients in a blender with a few cubes of ice. Pour around 1-2 cups of almond milk in (depending on how thick you like it) and blend.
For some optional extras you can try adding chia seeds, vegan protein powder, cocoa powder, maca powder and/or nut butter.
Freeze your ingredients in a zip lock bag the night before to make your morning ritual a breeze. Enjoy!
