Golden Fence
2024
Golden Fence celebrates community collaboration through the assembly of donated fences along Central Avenue, symbolizing the diverse backgrounds that contribute to a unified academic environment. The sculpture stands as a testament to the strength found in communal synergy and shared support, uplifting the spirit of inclusivity and safety on campus
Urban Arts Commission (UAC) and the University of Memphis collaborated on the UAC’s New Public Artist Fellowship to address the institutional barriers artists face when creating large-scale public sculptures and support artists expanding their practices beyond the studio. The 2023-24 New Public Artists Fellowship provided in-depth training and professional development resources to 6 up-and-coming, talented sculptors.
